Using the Collection

Getting a Card

A library card is required to borrow materials from the collection.  A person wishing to get a Three Rivers Public Library District library card must live within the library district and provide acceptable proof of the current address. A photo ID is required with the name of the person applying and current address.  If the photo ID does not have a current address, one of the below items must be brought into the library in addition to the photo ID for proof of address. PO Boxes are not acceptable proof of residency.

The following items are examples of acceptable proof of current address:

  • Driver's License
  • Paycheck Stub
  • State Issued ID Card
  • Voter Registration Card
  • Imprinted Checkbook
  • Utility Bill
  • Credit Card Bill
  • Traffic Ticket
  • Lease Agreement
  • Mortgage/Closing Papers

Your library card is to be presented when materials are borrowed or other services are requested.

Library Card Number

Your library card number can be found on the back of your library card underneath the barcode.  It's 14 digits long and starts with "21561".

PIN

Every library card has a PIN, which is needed to sign in to your account when requesting, renewing, or downloading materials.  The default PIN is the last four numbers of the library card number.  Patrons are able to change this PIN by logging into their account.

If you have changed  your PIN and forgotten it, you can follow the online prompt or bring your library card and an ID into either library for assistance.

Searching the Collection

Whether or not you know the exact title you need, there are several ways to search the collection.  Our online catalog gives 24/7 access to our collection and the collections of other libraries in PrairieCat.  You can search by author, title, or keyword.  Results can be narrowed by format and library in the lefthand column.  Please note, ebooks and eaudiobooks are currently NOT entered into this catalog.  Search for ematerials through our emedia providers

Of course, you can always call us or drop in and we'll do the searching for you.

If you cannot find the title you're looking for, you can also Suggest a Purchase.

Placing a Hold

When searching the online catalog, patrons can place holds on any materials they are interested in.  Simply click on the  Request It button.  You will need your library card number and PIN.  To place a hold on a title you cannot find in the online catalog, please contact the library.

Please note that other libraries may restrict their new or popular items.

Renewing Items

If you want to extend your due date, most items can be renewed up to 3 times.  You can renew your items by:

  • logging into your account

  • calling either library at (815) 467-1600 or (815) 467-6200

  • calling the renewal hotline at (888) 542-7259

  • stopping in at either library

If there are any pending holds, the system will prohibit you from renewing the item.

Fees

Items that are damaged or lost will be charged the cost of the item, along with a $5 processing fee. Replacement copies are not accepted in lieu of payment.

Fees can be paid through your online account using a debit or credit card, or at either building with cash, check, or card.
